Louth singer Jenny Hanlon reaches semi-final of TG4's Glór Tíre

Jenny says she is grateful for the support she has received from her native county
Louth singer Jenny Hanlon is just one episode away from reaching the Grand Final of this season of TG4’s long-running, hit Country Music show, Glór Tíre.
When the Country singer-songwriter from Cooley steps onto the stage for the live broadcast of the Glór Tíre semi-finals on Tuesday 16 April, she knows she has an opportunity to take the next step forward in her career.
Jenny will be competing for the public vote with Jason McCahill (Donegal), Alistair Fingleton (Kildare), and Gerard Gormely (Tyrone).
Only one of the four can go through to join Chelsea Evans (Donegal), Kark Kirkpatrick (Fermanagh), and Shannen Carroll (Meath) in the Grand Final which takes place the following week.
Jenny has had a memorable Glór Tíre, duetting with the great Johnny Brady on ‘Shallow’, the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga song from A Star Is Born, while last week she gave a very personal rendition of Nanci Griffith’s ‘Trouble In Our Fields’
“It’s a really special song to me,” she said.
“It’s a tribute to my cousin, Raymond Hanlon, who sadly passed away last year. It was played at his funeral, so I wanted to honour him tonight.”
Jenny is also grateful for the support she has received from her native county.
“It’s been very good,” she says. “There’s been a lot of support from the local media and great write-ups, which I’m very appreciative of.”
Whatever happens for Jenny on Glór Tíre, she knows being on the show is terrific exposure.
“It’s a great outlet and you never know who’s watching,” she says. “I’m just grateful to be able to stand here and have the opportunity to do this.”
Ultimately, Jenny’s goal is to develop and gain recognition as a songwriter.
“I love performing and am still not trying to let the nerves take over, but songwriting is my outlet,” she says. “I find it very healing. It’s very important to me.
“I will probably feel, not that I’ve made it, but I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished something when one of my own songs is being played on the radio. Only then I’ll be happy.”
