My thinning hair had gaps that showed my scalp – I filled it in within months thanks to my holy grail routine

HOME remedies stimulated growth for a woman whose hair became thin enough to see her scalp.
She confessed to having felt self-conscious about her shedding locks before trying DIY beauty treatments.
A combination of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), stress, and neglect caused her hair to become “pretty sparse” at the front.
She said her scalp became visible in the gap while her tresses were “brittle” to the touch and visibly thin.
She revealed on Reddit that she turned to traditional South Asian remedies in the hope of improving her hair health.
“I’ve been doing the following pretty regularly for a few months and literally without exaggeration, my front gaps have filled in,” she said.
“My hair feels so much more thick and luxurious and my scalp isn’t visible anymore. My dandruff is also completely gone.”
BEDTIME ROUTINE
The beauty guru revealed she had been brushing her hair nightly with a wide-tooth comb and applying a homemade rosemary peppermint spray to the scalp.
She made the spray using three large handfuls of fresh rosemary, a handful of parsley, and a handful of basil.
“Simmer in water for 20 minutes then let it steep and cool, strain out the tea,” she said.
“When it’s cool, add 20 drops of rosemary essential oil, 20 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 10 drops of lavender essential oil.
“Add to spray bottle and liberally spray your scalp every night, followed by a massage.”
She revealed that she had also been oiling her hair three to four hours before each bath.
She mixed castor oil, jojoba oil, onion, and coconut oil and then massaged it into her scalp.
“On top of this, add 12 drops of rosemary and peppermint essential oil to your scalp,” she said.
“I have also switched to a completely natural, sulphate-free shampoo.
“Onion water and onion oil are extremely high in sulfur which is amazing for hair fall and new hair growth.
“Don’t wash your hair more than two to three times a week max.”
A 2018 study referenced by Healthline found that onion water can promote hair growth, moisturize dry hair, and nourish hair follicles.
Researchers added the onion extract to a natural shampoo.
NUTRITION
The beauty enthusiast said she had been eating a diet rich in healthy fats rather than taking hair supplements.
“I have a giant jar of blended pumpkin, sunflower, chia, flax, black, sesame, and fenugreek seeds, which I aim to consume a tablespoon of every morning,” she said.
“I’m also making sure I don’t underdo my protein.
“Please make sure you meet your macros for the day because, without adequate nutrition, our hair and skin have no chance.”
She praised the benefits of rosemary and peppermint essential oils after reading studies likening their effectiveness to hair growth treatment minoxidil.
She revealed prescription eyelash growth treatment Latisse is also a part of her routine.
She applies two to three drops of the product to her scalp and brows at night but doesn’t use it on her lashes due to bad side effects.
According to Healthline, dosages of Latisse are determined by an individual’s doctor and the manufacturer promises visible results after 16 weeks.
Many responses to the Reddit thread thanked the woman for sharing the haircare routine after struggling with their own excessive shedding.
“Thank you, I’ve been looking for a reliable rosemary spray method for a while,” one person said.
“Wow! This post is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you,” another wrote.
“How long do you keep that rosemary peppermint spray? Do you keep it in the fridge?”
The original poster revealed it can be stored in the fridge for up to four weeks.
